The Washington State Patrol was founded in 1921 as the Washington State Highway Patrol and its original six Highway Patrolmen covered the entire state’s roughly 900 miles of paved roadways by motorcycle. 105 years later, the 2,500 strong force of both commissioned and civilian law enforcement professionals not only maintain traffic safety on tens of thousands of miles of state and federal roadways but also serve in one of the largest public safety service agencies in the country. The modern WSP is charged with major crime investigations, capitol and executive protection, statewide emergency response, fire training, and inspection, as well as forensic investigation and laboratory services.
Join WSP Director of Public Affairs Chris Loftis for a presentation and discussion on the agency’s past, current strategies and deployments, as well as future missions and challenges in a rapidly changing legal, social, and political landscape.
