The first-ever Small Business Saturday took place on Nov 27, 2010. It encouraged people across the country to support small, local businesses.  For every dollar spent in town, about .65 cents stays. On average, 48 percent of each purchase at local independent businesses was re-circulated locally, compared to less than 14 percent of purchases at large chain stores, like the mall. That can m ake a real impact in Port Orchard.
